Multicultural Focus

I view therapy from a multicultural approach. I consider how various aspects of who you are as a person impact you on a daily and long-term basis. I look at how the current politics of the world around you, the people in your life, and the experiences you have had impact your presenting concerns in therapy. We all have variables that impact us from the moment we are born and throughout our lives. These variables include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Gender and Gender Identity
  • Race and Ethnicity
  • Immigrant status
  • Ability status
  • Age
  • Class structure (i.e. socioeconomic status)
  • Sexual orientation
  • Religion, spirituality, or identifying as areligious
  • Acculturation status

I believe that therapy can really be enriched by discussions regarding the many aspects of you as a person and the impact of the world around you. However, I also operate under the assumption that just because you have a particular variable that may be significant, it may not impact the main reason you are coming to therapy. As such, please know that we will only discuss what feels salient and important to you.
